Accessible by Design: AI Agents for Document Transformation 

As the European Accessibility Act (EAA) begins to be implemented, an Italian bank began a comprehensive effort to strengthen its understanding and implementation of accessibility guidelines across all touchpoints and documents—both client-facing and internal.

The challenge lay in managing thousands of existing documents—manuals, regulations, policies, forms, and contracts—created over years and still in circulation within the bank’s internal systems. These materials needed to be assessed for compliance with accessibility criteria to ensure equitable access and transparency for all users.

The guiding question was: How can technology enable a scalable, structured, and objective evaluation of document accessibility across an entire banking organization?
To address this, the bank partnered with a startup specializing in AI-based document management, to experiment with a customized platform that could analyze 8,000 internal documents against 20 accessibility criteria defined by the EAA.
